Get back in the groove with live jazz in the Grill from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The lounge is seated on a first come, first served basis so arrive early to get a seat. Dinner reservations are available in the atrium.
February 8 - Gavin Youngash Trio
guitar, bass and drums- jazzy/funk
Talented jazz guitarist Gavin Youngash and his trio, Mike Ardagh; drums and James Meger; bass, are influenced by Wayne Shorter, Donny Hathaway, Bill Frisell, and others. They create vibrant vehicles for improvisation that defy a fixed genre. Very cool.
February 22 - Jim Black Trio
guitar, bass and drums- bluesy/funky/motown
Lead by guitarist Jim Black and Drummer Mike Ardagh, the group pulls from a large catalogue of jazz, funk and soul music.
February 15, 29 & March 7 - Max Zipursky Trio
piano, bass and drums- upbeat nu jazz lounge
Max Zipursky is one of the city’s hottest new players. Although he plays your typical Jazz standards and lounge tunes, Max specializes in Hip Hop, Jazz and Soul. He plays old favorites, new and originals with a special twist that makes him unique to Vancouver’s circuit of players.
March 14-Jennifer Scott, Rene Worst & Dave Sakula
Jennifer Scott is a Vancouver-born vocalist and jazz pianist specializing in jazz, blues and world music. Jennifer is considered one of the most important jazz artists working in Canada and the United States today. From sold-out concerts in San Francisco to exclusive local club performances, Jennifer’s performance experiences have been varied. Jennifer has appeared at Jazz Festivals all across Canada and in several of the United States. She has also appeared with such jazz luminaries as:Tommy Banks, Don Thompson, Kenny Wheeler, Skywalk, and Hugh Fraser, to name a few.
March 21-Melody Diachun, Doug Stephenson & Rene Worst
JUNO nominee Melody Diachun is an in-demand vocalist celebrated for her expressive voice, warm performance and ear catching original material. With several albums to her credit, Melody has been hailed as a jazz singer of the first order. She was nominated ‘female vocalist of the year’ at Canada’s 2009 National Jazz Awards.
March 28-Rebecca Shoichet, Randall Stoll, Jennifer Scott & Rene Worst
Rebecca is a young yet incredibly mature vocalist who has toured with bands as diverse as Amanda Marshall, Tom Cochrane, Johnny Ferreira and the Swing Machine, and Vancouver’s 10 piece funk band, Soulstream. Her experience in acting and musical theatre guarantee a performance that’s both musically riveting and visually enchanting.
April 4: Les is More Trio with Leslie Harris
This urban lounge trio blends together the sumptuous vocal stylings of Leslie Harris with the understated suaveness of Curtis Debray on guitar and Stefan Bienz on upright bass. The mesmerizing charm of this ensemble will incite even the die-hard skeptic to toe-tapping jubilance.
April 11: Don Stewart, Jennifer Scott & Rene Worst
Don Stewart’s voice is recognizable from the first note…silky smooth, rich satin, sophisticated, mellow, enraged in passion, honeyed and superb range are just some of the descriptions of his incomparable voice. Don has explored many musical genres from Rock to Motown to Blues to Jazz which all help to enrich the unique and sophisticated sound of this seasoned jazz singer.
