Johanna Skibsrud’s “The Sentimentalists”, winner of the 2010 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

If you love books, want to read some of the best contemporary voices and discuss the book with others, you should join The Vancouver Club’s Professional Women’s Book Club. Hosted by Club Librarian Dax Bradford, this will be an informal meeting on the last Tuesday evening of each month. The book club will meet, discuss the current selection and choose the book for the following month. Complimentary champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be available at each meeting in addition to the copy of selected book.

The inaugural selection is Johanna Skibsrud’s “The Sentimentalists” ,winner of the 2010 Scotiabank Giller Prize. Firmly established as Canada’s most prestigious literary award, the Giller Prize is known for its effect on book sales, turning winners into instant bestsellers.

The daughter of a Vietnam war veteran, Ms. Skibsrud is a poet who has incorporated her father’s life story into a meditation on family relationships, memory and loss. This undoubtedly will provide some interesting questions to discuss at out first meeting.
