Christchurch Club Update

The president of our reciprocal club, The Christchurch Club, brings us an update:
We are most grateful for all the support we have received from reciprocal clubs from around the World, and offers of free and heavily discounted accommodation.

While our Members have not suffered loss of life, several were injured and many have had homes destroyed.

The ongoing aftershocks being experienced are unsettling and the Christchurch Central Business District where our Clubhouse is situated is still closed to the public.

Our Clubhouse a Category I Historic Place suffered severe damage and contractors have demolished the East Wing which contained the Dining Rooms and Members Bar and upstairs Accommodation. The remainder of the building is being made watertight and secure. Recent photographs of the Clubhouse are attached.

We have been fortunate in negotiating an association with Huntley Lodge, a boutique luxury hotel for the use of our members and reciprocal guests. Their website is and corporate rates are available to reciprocal club members.

With all of Christchurch’s CBD Cafés and Bars closed, members are appreciating the opportunity of meeting at Huntley until the Club reopens again.

Kind Regards
Ben Tothill
On June 13th, significant aftershocks shook the Christchurch area, compounding damage and hampering recovery efforts. The New Zealand Red Cross is still accepting donations for the recovery.
