Dear Vancouver Club community,
We see the gradual increase of people in the streets, the cautious-yet-hopeful words of our provincial government, and we are optimistic that we can begin a slow reawakening of our economy. But caution is key. Some are eager to return to the normal we once knew, others take a more measured approach, still hesitant of the person next to them. The broad range of sentiments will have an impact as we all take a step forward.
Your Board of Directors continues to meet weekly and are diligently considering the different scenarios of what a reopening could look like. In our recent weekly discussions, a key topic has been the upcoming annual general meeting. One of the many consequences of the physical distancing orders has been the postponement of the audited financial statements, and thus the postponement of our AGM, and with it, in accordance with our bylaws, the postponement of our election of directors. Originally slated for June, the decision has been made to postpone the AGM until September 28. As the restriction on large gatherings remains in place for the foreseeable future, we will hold our AGM virtually this year.
While we do not yet have a date confirmed, your Board is working closely with management to carefully consider a timeline and a strategy for reopening that will see a gradual reintroduction of services that are within the governmental guidelines. Until such time, the Club continues to offer weekly member programming and initiatives that connect and engage our membership. The Club’s take away meal program has seen an extraordinary response. This will continue weekly and with new offerings continually added.
With the collective efforts of the talented individuals who are my fellow directors, the invaluable guidance of our Past Presidents, Philip Ireland and his team, your Club is in good hands. Thank you again for your continued support and encouraging letters.
We are our best together. We are The Vancouver Club.
