Preparation is Key to Staying Safe on the Trails
Hiking Club Essentials
Enjoy beautiful BC and stay safe on the trails. Before setting out, consider the conditions and ensure you are prepared.
Recommended Items:
- Proper Hiking Boots/Shoes (no gym shoes or sandals)
- Proper Hiking Clothing (no cotton, jeans, etc)
- Daypack (15L backpack)
- Water (estimate ½ litre for every hour of the hike)
- Food & Snacks (bring more than you need)
- Headlamp or Flashlight (fully charged)
- Firestarter (Lighter, Matches, Flint)
- Whistle or Signaling Device
- Knife or Multitool
- Emergency Blanket
- First-Aid Kit (hike leader will carry one)
- Cell Phone or GPS Device/Compass
- Spare Warm Clothes / Rain Jacket
- Hat with brim
- Sunscreen & Insect Spray
- ID / Cash

- Water Treatment Tablets or Filter
- Toilet Paper
- Lightweight Rope/Cord
- Bear Spray (Hike leader will carry one)
